Architectural
Alliance was hired to develop architectural and thematic options
for the redevelopment of the “Y” intersection of Concourse B at
Memphis International Airport.
The original concourse had low
ceilings,
low light levels, and a constricted, confusing primary intersection.
The new concourse redevelopment, which will open in two phases,
Fall 2004 and Spring 2005, features clarified wayfinding and sightlines,
improved artificial and natural lighting, an improved concession
area with new national branded and local concepts, and upgraded
finishes.
The project includes an integrated sense of place theme that highlights Memphis’s tradition of innovation and progress
- a nexus that blends and reinvents diverse social, cultural and
industrial attributes for dissemination to the rest of the world.
This progressive theme will be represented throughout the terminal
complex, with an emphasis on musical heritage represented
at the “Y” intersection of Concourse
B.
