Star Quality: A Retail Revolution at a Minnesota Airport
The Minneapolis / St. Paul International Airport completed a revolutionary renovation of its retail venues. The new space, called "Northstar Crossing" in honor of Minnesota being known as the Northstar State, offers unprecedented customer service and convenience, vastly improved public aesthetics, and increased
airport profits.
The project's name suggests a crossing of people and commerce through global hubs of activity. Materials were carefully chosen to reflect a subtly sophisticated Minnesota theme. Geographically-inspired floor medallions made of stone were created by several of the state's artists. Increased light levels, a new ceiling design, and custom light fixtures work in conjunction with other elements to create a contemporary and effective retail environment.
Northstar Crossing, encompassing 74,000 square feet at a cost of $7 million, was completed in a five-phase effort spanning 21 months.
