The Northwest Airline's WorldClub, located at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, provides a highly refined setting for between-flight hospitality and business hoteling at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. The WorldClub’s atmosphere contrasts with that of the terminal – it is relaxing, quiet, and designed in the spirit of first-class hospitality.
The design goes beyond traditional "private club" elements. The lounges are seen as comfortable "living rooms" breaking up what could be a vast sea of seating into cozier spaces that meet the individual guests needs. Table and floor lamps throughout the lounges as well as original art provide a warm residential feel. There are lounges that feature drum tables with power and data connections, a fireplace, television, and a breakfast bar. The individual "living rooms" are created within the open plan with ceiling elements and slate/artglass architectural space dividers. The Business Center provides individual business carrels equipped with laptop access and telephones with the support of fax and
copying machines.
The circulation spine organizes other functional elements such as well-appointed restrooms, changing areas, and flight information display monitors where guests can keep an eye on the status of their flight. A subdued light level characterizes the Bar Lounge and distinguishes the termination of the Club. A selection of food and beverages are available for guests to
serve themselves. Guests can relax in front
of the slate/artglass fireplace or keep an eye
on the stock exchange by way of a continuous LED display.
Minneapolis/St. Paul's new WorldClub has or currently is being built at hubs in Detroit, Chicago, Memphis, San Francisco and
Norita, Japan.
